Reading and ADHD

Book

Did you know that most kids lose some of their reading and math skills over the summer, and that kids with ADD or ADHD may lose even more? I was at our local bookstore this afternoon and noticed a sign saying that they had the required reading lists for school available. More and more schools are joining this trend of requiring students to read a designated book over the summer in an effort to help maintain reading levels.

Lost, Not Found

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

I’ve just spent the last two hours searching for my mom’s wedding rings. My mom passed away on this date 2 years ago, and I’ve been told that I was given her wedding rings. Since there’s only me and my dad, and he’s the one who told me, I have to believe that it’s true. The really awful thing is that not only do I have no memory of receiving them, I have no idea where they are.

ADHD in the Night Time

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

I don’t know if you pay attention to the time that I usually write my posts - there’s no reason you should - but the fact is, I usually write them late at night. This one will be posted after midnight.

I’ve always been a night owl; I do my best thinking and creating then. I don’t know if it’s an ADD thing or not. I do have trouble getting up in the mornings, which does seem to be an ADD thing, although even that is changing as I get older. I really hate not being able to sleep in the way I used to.

In my last post, I talked about living life in the ADD Lane - scheduling too much into your day and then frantically trying to get it all done, usually at the last minute. Here are some tips to get you out of the ADD Lane more often:

  • Realize that you have a tendency to overbook yourself. You know what they say: knowing that you have a problem is the first step in solving it.

Life in the ADD Lane

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, and I’m sorry for that. Somehow my life seems to have gotten away from me lately. I’m sure you can relate. We all seem to have crazy busy lives these days with too much to do and not enough time to do it. I don’t have to tell you what all that is, either; you know - you do it every day.
