The other night I spent several hours working on a small but important part of this website. I’ve had readers who signed up for my newsletter and had trouble with some of the links, so I was trying to fix those and change the sign up box as well.

ADHD: Beyond Medication

Posted on | March 10, 2010 | No Comments

You and your ADHD do not exist in a vacuum. Just like almost everything else in your life, your ADHD is affected by all kinds of other factors like diet, exercise, sleep, stress level and more.

Whether or not you choose to take medication to help you with your ADHD symptoms, you can also do other things to help manage it.

ADHD Diagnosis: Now What?

When you first get diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder, it can be a relief. You finally have an explanation for the way you are, and you feel as though, from this point on, things will be better.

Often, however, that feeling is soon replaced with overwhelm and confusion.

Where do you begin to look for treatment, for solutions?

A good place to begin is with the person who diagnosed you. Ask for their opinion and find out what your options are.

Adding Structure

Like most people with ADHD, I do better in a structured environment. And while I have worked outside of the home, most of my married “mom” years have been spent at home. Home – where there is little structure unless you create it (and enforce it).

I’ve been reading a lot of “makeover” kinds of books lately. Not hair and makeup makeovers; more like life makeovers. Gee that’s not too ambitious is it?

Beauty and ADHD

Actually, that’s not true. I made that up. Sorry. :)

What is true is that low self esteem and depression can often accompany ADHD, and that can often be as obvious as the nose on your face, at least to others.
