The Laundry Monster

Have you ever seen that movie “Stepmom” with Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts? I love that movie, even if it is sad.

There is a scene in that movie that was literally an eye opener for me – as Oprah would say, “an aha moment”.

In the scene, Susan Sarandon is checking on her kids as they sleep. She goes to each of their rooms, straightens up a few things (this would take me hours in my kids rooms), and picks up the dirty clothes.

Now I don’t remember if she actually did the laundry here – probably not – but that was where my head was at. (I think of the weirdest things when I watch a movie – it bugs me when they should have turned the water off or shut the door and they didn’t).

So I got two “take aways” from that one scene:

1. You can pick it up a little at a time when a little is all there is or you can wait for it to grow into a mountain and spend days tackling it.

2. You don’t have to wait for Andy and Sarah and Caitlin each to accumulate a load of laundry. You can put all of their clothes together – a day or two’s worth – and maybe add some of your own – and you can do a load of laundry. This way, if you start from a clean slate – no dirty laundry – you’ll never have more than 1 or 2 loads dirty at a time. Magic!

Do you get weird things like that when you watch a movie or is it just me?

I do get weird things like that. Like I will say to myself I love that house – sure wouldn’t be the one to clean it… in the middle of a horror movie. Or during a drama I would think wow I love her shoes! Yay!
