Social Anxiety: How to Deal

by Brenda on June 26, 2010

Social anxiety is one of those little perks that often comes along with ADHD.

It’s understandable. When you consider that you have trouble paying attention to what others are saying, miss social cues, often interrupt or contribute things that don’t seem to follow the conversation, it’s no wonder that you might be uncomfortable in social situations.

Here are a few tips that help me get through social situations:

Communication Skills

by Brenda on June 21, 2010

Good communication skills are important to every aspect of our lives, whether it’s communicating with your spouse, your boss, or even your hair stylist. Maybe especially your hair stylist. :)

But as ADD Moms, our communication skills may not be as polished as we would like.

It’s hard to communicate with someone if you’re not paying attention all the time, or having trouble focusing on the conversation, or missing important social cues.

Marriage and ADHD

by Brenda on February 9, 2010

If you’ve read my blog for a while, you might know that my mom had ADHD but my dad does not. They were married for 52 years and I always thought that their marriage was a good one. I don’t remember arguments between them; seemed like they got along pretty well.

Sharing Yourself and Your Home

by Brenda on December 16, 2009

There is a lot of socializing going on this time of year. People have holiday parties, cookie exchanges, and may even drop by with a gift.

How good are you at sharing yourself and your home?

Personally I’m a little uncomfortable playing hostess. I don’t seem to have those skills that other women have. You know – you stop by and they invite you into their warm, beautiful home. They offer you something to drink or maybe a little snack. They know just how to make you feel at ease and they never have trouble figuring out what to say.

Shopping and ADHD

by Brenda on November 17, 2009

I’ve got Christmas music playing on my radio; I’ve been listening to it since Saturday when the lite radio station in our area started playing it. The holiday season is upon us.

Of course, a big part of the holiday season is shopping. Lots and lots of shopping.

You’ve got food shopping for Thanksgiving and gift shopping for Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, or whatever holiday your family celebrates. Plus you might be shopping for new clothes for yourself or your family for special social events. Seems like every elementary school holiday production comes with clothing requirements.
