Making the Most of Your Time

Time management is one of the things that people with ADHD struggle with. There always seems to be either too little of it or too much, depending on what you’re doing. Not only that, but we’re also challenged when it comes to estimating time. Somehow our internal clock or whatever it is that makes sense of time is running a little differently, just like our brains.

Whether or not you have ADHD, you’ve still got things to do and places to go and people to meet.

If you have ADHD, though, getting things done and getting to places/meeting people on time can be a battle, causing stress and feelings of inadequacy.

One of the things that you can do to help this is to learn to structure your day a little differently. (I learned this from my friend Carol, who’s way smart and has promised to turn her ideas into a book so we can all be more organized and on time.)

Carol organizes her day by separating her tasks according to how much of her attention and concentration they will need.

Things that need a lot of concentration and close attention are scheduled for the times of the day that Carol knows she will be most alert. She also makes sure that she is uninterrupted as much as possible so that she can give these things her full attention.
With Carol’s system, the most important things get done at a time when she is most capable of doing her best work.

Things that require less attention can be scheduled in other parts of the day when her energy might be a little lower and there may be other distractions around. Carol can relax, knowing that mistakes are more forgivable here because she has taken the time to decide ahead of time how much of her attention is needed.

The beauty of doing things this way is that both your productivity and your quality of work improve, and that’s a good thing.

Note: Carol’s system is actually much more comprehensive and detailed than I have described here. As soon as she gets that book written, we can get the whole story. Oh, and visit Carol’s site for the most amazing mineral make up you’ve ever tried. She makes it herself! I told you she was smart!
