OK that’s probably not a word, but you know what I mean.
Did you ever have one of those days when you felt like you’d done nothing at all? Or one of those days when you felt rushed and busy yet couldn’t figure out what you’d been doing?
It’s Tuesday and so far I’ve had a whole week like that.
Yesterday was one of those days when I felt busy but not productive. I spent most of the day in the car. Looking back, I can see that I did more than I felt like I did, but I didn’t feel as though my time was worthwhile.
I bought groceries, went to the bank, ran some other errands, made dinner, connected with a friend or two, and sent out a few emails I needed to get to. Isn’t that enough? Why didn’t I feel as if it were?
Today I feel completely unproductive, but at least I know why.
#1. I slept in. I woke up at my normal time but I didn’t feel good, so I went back to sleep. Yes, I know it’s OK to do that, but it sort of tells my body that today we’re going to slack off.
#2. I didn’t take a shower until 4:00 pm. Are you shocked? I was dressed, but not showered. Not getting up on time kind of set me up for that one.
I forgot #3: I’ve eaten no protein today, just carbs. For me, that’s bad, bad, bad.
I have noticed that, in general, we ADDers are not morning people. Unless, like my friend Kelly says, we’re 2:00 am people. That’s morning, too, isn’t it?
The other thing I have noticed is that if you can get an ADDer out of bed at a decent hour and in the shower and dressed, the day seems to go way better. Even though we resist it, we really are more productive when we behave more like “normal” people.
At least I am.
