Spinning Out of Control

by Brenda on April 29, 2012

Sometimes life surprises you. And sometimes it’s not such a pleasant surprise. But even if it’s a wonderful surprise, it can still throw your life into chaos.

Chaos and ADHD are like those two kids who shouldn’t hang out with each other cause they always cause trouble.

Lately my life has been a lot like that.

When life goes spinning out of control, your ADD symptoms often go along for the ride.

Life happens. Sometimes it’s messy.

So what do you do to take control?

When your life seems like it’s spinning out of control, your first reaction is to try and stop it. But hey, you’re no superhero and the task is often bigger than you can manage.

So here’s what you do instead. You start small.

You begin to create a small oasis of calm in the midst of the chaos. You find something that makes you feel calmer, more relaxed, or maybe even in charge.

A quiet break in the morning with a cup of tea and a good book or your favorite pet. A bubble bath or massage. Or maybe even the knowledge that no matter what, our purse will always be organized or your bank account will always balance. Or maybe just that you will always have perfectly polished nails.

You have to look for and find the things that are still in control. They’re there, trust me. Take comfort in them.

Once you’ve found your little oasis, begin to make it bigger. Do the things that you need to make you feel better - more refreshed and energized.

And don’t forget the simple things. Get enough sleep, eat healthy food and drink lots of water. Take a walk outside. It’s good exercise and good for your soul. Talk to a friend. Watch a funny movie.

And remember, this too shall pass.
