Those of us with ADHD may often find ourselves in a situation for which we are not prepared. My most famous one was inviting 10 people for Christmas dinner and forgetting to go grocery shopping. Not my finest hour.
Most often these situations are of the everyday sort - running out of clean socks, underwear or clothes, not having anything for dinner, running out of gas and possibly money - you get the idea. You’ve been there.
The back up plan is about, well having your back the next time you run into one of those situations.
If running out of socks or underwear before you can do laundry is a problem, then your back up plan is made of two parts. First, count to see how many pairs you have. If you have 4 pairs and do laundry once a week, no wonder you have trouble.
So first step, buy enough to last you for as long as you need until you do laundry.
The next step is to set up a regular laundry day for that kind of thing. Chances are you don’t have one now. Throwing a load of laundry in to wash really doesn’t take that long, especially if you have a hamper for your dirty clothes in your closet or bedroom.
If coming home from work and finding something to make for dinner is the problem, then you have a few solutions here too. And none of them involve take out.
First, are you making a menu each week and then making a shopping list from it? If not, there’s your first step.
Next, make sure to include a few pantry meals for those crazy days when you’re super busy or tired. A pantry meal is one you make from ingredients you have on hand. For more information, check it out at Food Network.
