Your House and Your Head

The other day I was watching TV when a commercial came on for the show Hoarding. It’s on TLC I think.

In the commercial, the person says that the condition of your house is a reflection of the state of your mind.

And Ceci at Only You has this to say:

When I was living at home my mother used to say to me, “The state of your room reflects the state of your mind,” which I found impressive for its stunning accuracy. There really was alot on my mind as a teen and my inner world often prevented me from being able to process my outer world, like that of my desk, closet, bedroom or, later, apartments.

It makes sense if you think about it.

Someone who is depressed is not likely to have the energy or ambition to keep the house clean and neat. And someone who is genuinely happy must have a home that reflects that.

Have you ever been in a home that just felt a certain way? Maybe warm and welcoming or maybe something else.

I remember years ago when my husband and I were looking for a bigger home due to our growing family.

There was a house listed that was in a great neighborhood and listed for an even better price. It said it was a “handyman’s special” but that didn’t bother us.

Before we even got into the home we could feel and see the negative energy around it.

The lawn was unkept and the porch was falling apart. Inside, although it was dusk, there were hardly any lights on. The owner met us at the door in her robe and made no effort to hide her black eye, other than perhaps the lack of light inside.

I could go on, but you get the idea. We couldn’t get out of there fast enough and only stayed as long as we did out of politeness. Our realtor said it was the kind of house that made you want to burn your shoes when you left.

Now I’m sure that your home isn’t that bad, but take a look around. What is the state of your home saying about your state of mind?

I’ve got more to say on this subject, so be sure to come back tomorrow.
