Take Some Time for Fun

Yesterday I went out with a group of good friends to see a Christmas concert and have dinner.

I didn’t want to go.

It’s not that I didn’t want to hang out with my friends or that I didn’t want to see the concert.

No. It was because I was too busy.

Correction: because I thought I was too busy.

Too busy to go out with friends and have some much needed fun.

Is that ridiculous or what?

But those of us with ADHD often do things like that. And those of us who are ADD Moms do them even more.

Because we put other people before ourselves. And sometimes we even expect them to notice and to be grateful.

I dont’ know about you, but when I’m tired and stressed and have too much to do and not enough time to do it - especially at Christmas when expectations are far higher than they should be - well, I get crabby. Sometimes even angry. I snap at people who don’t deserve it.

Now let’s think about this for a minute.

Which would your family prefer: a “perfect” holiday with a tired, crabby, overworked woman, or a less than perfect one with someone who gets her limitations, does her best, and takes time out to de-stress and relax a bit?

Are you feeling me here?

I didn’t want to go to the concert. I had too much to do.

But I knew I needed to go. To relax and have fun.

So I dragged my husband out with me the day before for some last minute shopping, did some shopping online, wrapped presents for a few hours while listening to Christmas music, and went to the concert.

You know what?

I had the best time. I loved the show, I relaxed, and I laughed so much it hurt.

Just what I needed.

What about you?
